Was ist das Kontakt-Café (KoCa)?

Das KoCa ist ein Ort für alle Bewohner*innen der Lager, um gemeinsam zu essen und zu kochen, um sich mit anderen zu vernetzen, Erfahrungen auszutauschen und sich über die eigenen Rechte zu informieren. Wir sind offen für euch und eure Ideen!

The KoCa is an open space to cook and eat together, connect with others, exchange experiences, to organise politically and to inform yourself about your rights. We are open to you and your ideas!

Le KoCa est un espace ouvert pour cuisiner et manger ensemble, se connecter avec d’autres, échanger des expériences, s’organiser politiquement et s’informer sur ses droits. Nous sommes ouverts à vous et à vos idées !

Was ist der Hintergrund der Initiative?

Soziale Isolation, Perspektivlosigkeit und Entrechtung sind ein von Landes- und Kommunalpolitik getragener Dauerzustand für Geflüchtete in der Landeserstaufnahmeeinrichtung (LEA) Freiburg. Die Bewohner*Innen sind täglichen Grundrechtseingriffen wie Zimmerkontrollen, Arbeitsverbot, Kochverbot, uvm. ausgesetzt. Zusätzlich erschweren die zentrale Unterbringung und das geltende Besuchsverbot den Kontakt zu Menschen außerhalb der Einrichtung. Somit bleibt die LEA für viele Freiburger*Innen ein Nicht-Ort, dessen Existenz zu oft unsichtbar und unhinterfragt bleibt. LEA-Watch kritisiert diese Lagerpolitik grundsaetzlich.. Wir sind überzeugt, dass sich eine Aufnahme  nicht menschenwürdig gestalten lässt, bis diese Form der Massenunterkunft beendet wird. Dennoch möchten wir versuchen, konkret gegen die Missstände vorzugehen und die durch das Lager entstehende Isolation aufzubrechen. Das Kontakt-Café (KoCa) setzt hier an. Es soll den Geflüchteten einen geschützten Raum bieten, um gemeinsam über Erfahrungen zu sprechen, politisch zu partizipieren, praktische Unterstützung zu erhalten und mit Menschen außerhalb der LEA in Kontakt zu treten.

What is the background of the initiative?

Social isolation, lack of prospects and disenfranchisement are a permanent condition for refugees in the initial reception centre (LEA) in Freiburg, supported by state and local politics. The residents are subjected to daily encroachments on their basic rights, such as room inspections, work bans, cooking bans, and much more. In addition, the central accommodation and the current ban on visitors make contact with people outside the facility more difficult. Thus, for many Freiburg residents, the LEA remains a non-place whose existence is too often invisible and unquestioned. LEA-Watch is fundamentally critical of this camp policy. We are convinced that until this form of mass accommodation is brought to an end, it will not be possible to provide reception in a humane way. Nevertheless, we would like to try to take concrete action against the abuses and to break the isolation created by the camp. This is where the Kontact-Café (KoCa) comes in. It is meant to offer refugees a protected space to talk about their experiences together, to participate politically, to receive practical support and to get in touch with people outside the LEA.
